SCORE in Western Massachusetts provides an active internship program with local college undergraduate business students. Accepted students work in the Springfield office either for college credit and/or for the experiences gained. The internship includes direct involvement in Score’s counseling and workshops giving the students hard-to-obtain insights into the world of small businesses with its various challenges and successes.
During a typical internship SCORE membership of highly experienced business leaders work directly with the intern and many times open doors typically not available to students.
Students interested in internships should work through their school’s internship office. The Western New England College intern office has more information available. College intern offices interested in SCORE internships for their students should contact the SCORE Springfield Office.
Following a Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Framework (VTE), SCORE created and teaches a six session orientation to business. This orientation is designed to give students just beginning work in business and some starting small businesses important information that helps them be successful.
The program topics include Entrepreneurship, Business Plans, Business Resources, Management, Financial Management, Labor Laws and Civil Rights Laws, Business in the Community. A Quiz was developed for each section to test learning.
This orientation was first presented in the 2008/2009 school year on a monthly basis to the entire junior class (95 students). SCORE Western Mass Chapter 228 offers guidance and materials for use by others. Contact the Springfield SCORE office at 413 785 0314 or SCORE@stcc.edu for further information.
